Guidelines for Publishing with DC Press

About the Author & Project

  • Brief but specific curriculum vitae with professional affiliations
  • Review process
    • Your proposal and any supporting material will be discussed with colleagues and advisory editors.  We observe strict confidentiality.
    • Comments and suggestions will be communicated to you. Your proposal may be sent out for review. Please indicate the names of three to five individuals whose expertise in the subject area will help facilitate our evaluation process. Provide names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses if possible.  (We will find it difficult to work with individuals who are not using the Internet and have access to e-mail.)
    • DC Press receives many book proposals.  We publish only a few.  Your manuscript must stand out from the others that we review on a weekly basis.  Our selection process is time consuming and our decisions are taken very seriously.  We appreciate you considering us as your potential publisher.

  • Outstanding features of the project (no less than 5) – Why would anyone find this book valuable to have in their personal library?
  • Benefits for the potential reader (no less than 5)  - What are the true virtues of this book and what will people get out of it that they can’t pick up elsewhere?
  • List the markets to which you are writing (business, healthcare, psychology, self-help, etc.)
  • When will the finished manuscript be completed?
  • Is all material in your manuscript original to you?  If not explain.

Marketing

  • List societies and associations whose membership would be interested in your project
  • List target magazines and journals, key newspapers for review and promotion
  • Competitive Analysis: Please provide the name of the competitive book(s), publisher, copyright, and author.  Provide your analysis of the competitive book, listing no less than five reasons why your manuscript is better (writing, thoroughness, authoritativeness, etc.).  Without this, your project cannot be considered.  It is critical that you understand your competition.
