for Publishing with DC Press

- Brief but specific
curriculum vitae with professional affiliations
- Review process
- Your
proposal and any supporting material will be discussed with colleagues and
advisory editors. We observe
strict confidentiality.
- Comments
and suggestions will be communicated to you. Your proposal may be sent out
for review. Please indicate the names of three to five individuals
whose expertise in the subject area will help facilitate our
evaluation process. Provide names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and
e-mail addresses if possible. (We
will find it difficult to work with individuals who are not using the
Internet and have access to e-mail.)
- DC
Press receives many book proposals. We
publish only a few. Your
manuscript must stand out from the others that we review on a weekly
basis. Our selection process
is time consuming and our decisions are taken very seriously.
We appreciate you considering us as your potential publisher.
Overview
- Description of the project
(3 to 5 paragraphs) – be very specific
- Tentative table of contents
or outline of the project
- Sample chapter(s) if
available. We will sign no
publishing agreement for an incomplete manuscript.
- Approximate number of pages,
figures, and tables in the manuscript.
- Outstanding features of the
project (no less than 5) – Why would anyone find this book valuable
to have in their personal library?
- Benefits for the potential
reader (no less than 5) -
What are the true virtues of this book and what will people get out of it
that they can’t pick up elsewhere?
- List the markets to which
you are writing (business, healthcare, psychology, self-help, etc.)
- When will the finished
manuscript be completed?
- Is all material in your
manuscript original to you? If
not explain.
Marketing
- List societies and
associations whose membership would be interested in your project
- List target magazines and
journals, key newspapers for review and promotion
- Competitive Analysis: Please
provide the name of the competitive book(s), publisher, copyright, and
author. Provide your analysis
of the competitive book, listing no less than five reasons why your
manuscript is better (writing, thoroughness, authoritativeness, etc.).
Without this, your project cannot be considered.
It is critical that you understand your competition.
