It was George Moore who said,
"the difficulty in life is the choice." Perhaps there is no
better example of how modern Americans are handling choice and having to
face tough decisions than in their marriages.
Good or bad,
Americans love to get married. We do it at a sizeable rate: nearly 6,000 a
day.
We also do a
fair-size job at getting divorced: in the area of 3,000 per day.
Sure, we've
all heard that nearly 50% of all marriages end in divorce. However, after
hearing it bantered about for much of the last two decades or so, isn't it
time that someone really put their foot in the way of the closing door and
asked some legitimate questions? Isn't it time that we start taking an
accounting of the fact that even "more" people think about
divorce or breaking off their relationships than actually do it? Doesn't
that raise the hairs on the back of your head? It should, says the author,
Dr. Dianne Occhetti.
