Gregory Sims has been awarded academic appointments in
numerous colleges and universities
including: the University of
California, Berkeley, Yale University, Temple University,
The University of Nevada, Reno, and Santa Clara
University. He is a psychologist, receiving his Ph.D. from
Stanford University. In addition, he has been involved
in many academic fields of interest and study, He was
for three years a Visiting Scholar in Anthropology at Stanford
University. His current clinical facility appointment is in Adolescent and
Child Psychiatry at the Stanford
University School of Medicine Dr.
Sims has an enduring interest in rekindling inspiration in and through
education. For two years he
was a co-chairperson of the Mendocino County California Congressional
Education Committee. He also has been active in the field of peace psychology.
He is one of the co-founders of the Division of Peace Psychology within
the American Psychology
Association. He was instrumental in the founding of a Northern
California Chapter of Psychologists for Social Responsibility.
Dr. Sims is currently clinical director of the Unicorn
Youth Services, in Philo, California.
He serves as a commissioner of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
in his home county of Mendocino. He has lectured widely and for the
past several years made several
presentations before the American Academy of Pain Management
on numerous aspects of the intersection between spirituality, psychology,
medicine, contemplation and
meditation. He is moderator for a thread on spirituality
and pain management on www.painmanage.org. He also has a radio program
on KZYX-Z public radio entitled
"Contemplative Mediatations". He is married to
Clarrisa Schaeffer and they have a blended family of five children and six
grandchildren. |
